A massive community-led cleanup at Nyari Dam, Rajkot — removing plastic waste, restoring the waterfront, and inspiring the city to protect its water bodies.
The Nyari Dam Cleanup Drive was organised on 6 April 2026 at the iconic Nyari Reservoir in Rajkot, Gujarat. The dam and its surrounding embankment had been accumulating years of plastic bags, thermocol, single-use bottles and food packaging — threatening the local ecosystem and water quality that the city depends on.
Cleanup Rajkot mobilised 24 dedicated volunteers who arrived at sunrise and worked in coordinated teams across four zones covering the dam road, the rocky southern bank, the picnic area near the main gate and the inlet stream that feeds the reservoir. In four hours the team collected and bagged approximately 340 kg of mixed solid waste for proper disposal by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation.
The drive was live-streamed on social media, drawing over 8,000 viewers and generating significant local media coverage. Several residents who watched online arrived spontaneously to join the effort, demonstrating the power of community action.
